About
the Campus Church
It is common to tell the story of a church by talking about ministers and programs and buildings and numbers. But the real story of Campus is describing the heart of the Christians who worship and serve here. It is an ongoing drama of how God is using ordinary followers of Jesus to reach out in missions, ministry and worship, not only in Gainesville, but also in many parts of the world.
It is a long-standing commitment to racial and ethnic diversity as a reflection of the kingdom of God here on earth.
It is a 50+-year legacy of reaching out to college students at the University of Florida as well as Santa Fe College.
It is a commitment to greeting every church guest regardless of his or her background or appearance.
It is small groups of members meeting together in homes weekly for the purpose of mutual encouragement, Bible study, and sharing our lives together making sure that no member's needs go unmet.
It is stopping in the middle of our worship service on Sunday mornings for members and guests to fill out prayer cards that are prayed over for hours every week by our Elders and Ministers.
It is committing to regular times of fasting and prayer for God’s power to work in our world and in our church.
It is “Jesus’ Little Helpers” gathering together for children’s church during our Sunday morning service and our teenagers meeting together on Wednesday evenings to pray. It is the “Prime Timers” who meet weekly for the purpose of Bible study and outreach to seniors in the Gainesville area.
It is going downtown on Friday evenings to both cook for and eat with the homeless.
It is small groups of members serving meals on Sunday evenings at the St. Francis house.
It is a holistic outreach to the Harbor Cove complex where every week people are being served through Bible study and emotional support.
It is contributing to the Care Fund on Wednesday evenings to financially support the needs of both our members and many non-members in the community.
It is “Christian Family Services” placing more than 400 adopted babies into Christian homes where they will grow up knowing that they are sincerely loved by parents and God.
It is “My School” who for over 30 years has taught over 2000 pre-school children about Jesus and his love for them.
It is “One Voice” using their talents to encourage and inspire others through singing.
It is supporting 5 different world missions in our effort to tell the world about Jesus.
It is allowing community groups such as AA & NA to meet in our building throughout the week for the purpose of mutual support in overcoming addiction.
It is opening our building up to other Christian organizations in the community such as Fellowship of Christian Athletes and a UF Christian sorority during the week.
Come join us, be a part of the story of what God is doing here!
Eric Brown
Preaching Minister
I have been at the Campus Church since 2002. I was born and raised in Texas and went to Texas A&M for undergraduate school (B.S. Psychology), then went to ACU where I completed the Masters of Divinity.
Campus Church is a place where grace is given, and I thank God for being here. This is one of the few places I know where I can bring anyone to visit and someone will reach out to them.
When I'm not serving God's people or working on my graduate degree in counseling from UF, you can usually find me hanging out at a coffee shop with a book. If you don't see me at the Christian Study Center, you can probably find me either working out or at the movie theater adding salt to my popcorn. ericbrown.campuscofc@gmail.com

Kevin Bird
Campus Minister
Some might say that I am a conflicted person. I like running in the stadium every Monday night even though it makes me ill each and every week. I love books even though I read slowly and always struggle to stay awake. Moreover, I have a great passion to join college students and young adults in living out the reality that "Jesus is Lord" even though everything around us says, "Devote yourself to your major, your job or your own amusement."
Hopefully, those who know me best would say that I have a great hope and that God will just continue to speak into existence those things that formerly did not exist. I will say that this hope has a solid foundation as He continues to save me and walk with me in spite of myself; He blesses me outrageously through my wife, Casie; and the Lord continues to astound the young people at Campus by His activity in our lives and all around Gainesville! campuschristians@aol.com

Dave and his wife, Chris, have been members here at Campus for 12 years. He's been an Elder at this congregation for 10 years and before coming to Gainesville he was an Elder at the Stevens Point Church of Christ in Wisconsin.
He and Chris have two sons. David is the oldest and he is married to Brenda Coulston, whose parents are missionaries in Kenya. They have twin girls, Alexis and Krista who are 4 years old and another daughter, Morgan who is 2. Presently they live in Los Angeles, California.
Michael, their youngest son lives in Boulder, Colorado with Chris' mother. Michael is an accountant for an Engineering Firm in Boulder. Both of our sons graduated from Abilene Christian University. Chris, my wife is the Business Manager for Christian Family Services and I am an Adjucnt Professor at Santa Fe Community College where I teach Chemistry and Math.
Dave is known for being a visitor of God's flock. Dave is very proactive in reaching out to members that are ill or those who have stopped attending church. Dave visibly strives to be a shepherd of God's sheep, especially those who are hurting physically or spiritually.

Leroy Frison
Elder
Leroy joined the Church in 1978 and was ordained an Elder in 1994. The reason he enjoys being an Elder is because he simply loves God and all of his people. He enjoys encouraging brothers and sisters to practice Ephesians 4:3: make every effort to keep the unity of the spirit through the bond of peace.
He and his wife, Jannett, have been married for 49 years and they have 5 children, 3 boys, and 2 girls. They also have 10 grand children.
Leroy was in the Navy for many years before he retired and is known in the congregation for being a soldier for Christ. Brother Frison's motto has always been that when there is something that needs to be done, then you should step up to the plate and do it. Commitment could be his first name, once he made a decision to follow Christ he never turned back.

Jimmie Brunson
Elder
Jimmie was converted to Christ here at the Campus Church of Christ when he was in high-school where he met his wife Barbara. He was ordained an Elder in 2004. Jimmie recently retired from working in the Engineering department at UF and he and Barbara are now spending alot of time taking care of aging family members, visiting their 2 sons, 2 daughters and grandchildren.
Jimmie is known for valuing relationships, and is a very easy person to get to know and love. Jimmie also loves to take his boat out on the water and fish. |
Don Price
Elder
Don and Joyce have been here at Campus for well over 20 years. He has been an Elder for over 10 of those years. Don retired a few years ago from being a Professor in the Agricultural department at the University of Florida. Don and Joyce have four children and have settled back into Gainesville after a two year work grant in the Washington D.C. area.
Don has been seen as a leader here at Campus for a number of years now and has been a stabilizing force here at Campus since the death of two of our founding Elders. Don is known for being one who is willing to think outside the box and being willing to support initiatives to reach out to people who do not know Jesus. |
